SXSW, All Roads Lead To Austin: Atlas Sound (Episode #1)
Welcome to the premiere episode of Other Music and digforfire.tv's new video series, SXSW, All Roads Lead to Austin, a short series of films revolving around our two lawn parties this Thursday and Friday afternoon at South By Southwest 2008. All the details of the free events are below, so if you will be in Austin this week, please swing by to say hi, hear some great music, and enjoy a relaxed afternoon in the midst of the madness. Whether or not you can be in Texas, you can share in the experience right here (and at digforfire.tv).
We hooked up with a few of our featured performers as they trekked towards Austin, meeting up on the road with Jay Reatard in Australia and Times New Viking deep in the heart of Texas, but first we have three short films from:
ATLAS SOUND in NYC and in the van, plus live at Vassar College (NOW SHOWING!!)
THESE NEW PURITANS cruising the streets and marshes of their hometown of Southend, England (premieres Tuesday, March 11)
SHEARWATER at home in Austin, rehearsing and showing us the town on the eve of the madness of SXSW (premieres Wednesday, March 12)
Then on Friday, March 14, we'll have three episodes featuring live performances and behind the scenes footage with: Bodies of Water, J. Mascis, These New Puritans, Mika Miko, Jay Reatard, Times New Viking. And then on Saturday, March 15, we'll have three more short films featuring: Phosphorescent
, Grand Archives, Portastatic, Yo La Tengo, Atlas Sound and Shearwater.
Today's premiere features Bradford Cox of Atlas Sound, sounding off about his favorite music as the band shops for records at Other Music in New York City, and holed-up in the van touring the East Coast, including footage from an intimate solo show at Vassar College. Anyone who is a fan of Atlas Sound or Deerhunter knows Bradford for both his great music and his outspoken personality, and he does not disappoint, talking about his history at SXSW, his family, his current band, and what it means to be 'indie famous' ... "At the Pitchfork Festival, I'm basically Barbra Streisand."
